iNDIA Bloc Rift Widens as DMK Seeks Separate Seating in Lok Sabha After Congress Backs Vijay’s TVK

The INDIA bloc witnessed a major political setback after DMK MP Kanimozhi requested separate seating arrangements in the Lok Sabha following Congress extending support to Vijay’s TVK in Tamil Nadu. The move highlights widening cracks within the Opposition alliance as political equations rapidly shift after the Assembly elections.

The growing political divide within the INDIA bloc became sharply visible on Friday after Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader and Member of Parliament Kanimozhi formally requested a separate seating arrangement for DMK members in the Lok Sabha, distancing the party from the Congress benches.

The development comes amid rapidly changing political equations in Tamil Nadu following the recent Assembly elections, where actor-turned-politician Vijay led his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, to a massive electoral victory by securing 108 seats. However, the party fell short of the majority mark of 118 seats by just 10 seats.

In a significant political shift, the Congress party, which secured five seats in the Assembly elections, extended conditional support to Vijay’s TVK to help form the government in Tamil Nadu. The move effectively ended the Congress party’s alliance with the DMK, triggering visible tensions within the Opposition alliance at the national level.

Reflecting the changed political circumstances, Kanimozhi wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla seeking revised seating arrangements for DMK Members of Parliament inside the House.

“I write to respectfully request suitable changes in the seating arrangement of the MP belonging to the DMK in the Lok Sabha. In view of the changed political circumstances and as our alliance with the Indian National Congress has come to an end, it may not be appropriate for our Members to continue occupying the present seating arrangement alongside them in the House,” Kanimozhi stated in her letter.

The political turbulence also prompted a reaction from Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who posted photographs with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on social media platform X. In his post, Yadav wrote, “We are not the ones who leave during difficult times.”

Kanimozhi later acknowledged the message and publicly thanked Akhilesh Yadav for his support. “Thank you for the solidarity and support @yadavakhilesh,” she posted on X.

The latest developments underline the deepening fractures within the INDIA bloc at a crucial political moment. With Congress shifting its support toward Vijay’s emerging political force in Tamil Nadu and the DMK openly distancing itself inside Parliament, the Opposition alliance now faces mounting uncertainty over its internal cohesion and future political strategy.
